Little Sunday - 2 Mile bay Sailing club

Little Sunday were playing down at 2 mile bay sailing club last night in a free concert. Lots of people enjoying the sounds and the evening sunset. Taupo’s pretty good as the sun goes down, and a few drinks while watching a live band after a day out on the boat. Boating darling! We were doing it really well until some one miss placed the winch handle so again we had the boat on the mooring for a while until a knight in shinning armour came and rescued us and got it out of the water. But I guess thats boating! And who doesn’t like sitting on the boat ramp at the peak of summer looking like rookies while boats come and go and a there’s a big line up behind you. Was made okay by having a chilled crew (which is possibly also why we were missing a winch handle in the first place) but meant it didn't really matter and I've laughed at plenty of people over the years so maybe a bit of pay back. And yet another boating tail. At least no keys were lost this time!

New years 2021

#2mile2good New Years 2021

Best place to bring in 2021! Taupo’s only waterfront bar and live bands right on the lake front. The red carpets came out for the event and the sunset behind the bands playing in the new year made for some amazing photos.

I’ve spent a few nights and days this year hanging out down at 2 mile so it seemed fitting to spend the new year there. The crew down there did an amazing job putting on a great event! As always there were lots of smiles and people wanting their photo taken on New Year!

Bring on 2021, its going to be good!

Orakei Korako - Paradise

Orakei Korako really is paradise, it also hosts a hot spring that comes into an inlet tucked up a side stream where you can go and warm up after being out on the boat. Theres a few other spots where hot water meets the river but we didn't have time to explore everywhere. We have done a couple of missions here over the years but that felt like a bit of a lifetime ago. So we were lucky enough to get invited to camp for a few days over the new year and got to go exploring and wake surfing. After a couple of attempts and a made up surf attachment that was made up for the side of the boat we were riding behind we got a pretty good wave.

A bloody good camp fire, a few beverages, lots of laughs, one broken prop and driving shaft, a couple of nights on a deflating air bed, a funnel and bloody good times. Will have to get back some time this summer for some more fun.

Christmas Sunday Jam - 2 mile bay sailing club

Whats better than a bar on the water? The new bar caters for private bookings. Cruising up to the bar and parking the boat up to go in and enjoy live music, the best gluten free mexican pizza (well thats my fav anyway) and a Prosecco is pretty magic. Sunday jams at 2 mile sailing centre have been a highlight this year. Who doesn’t enjoy a Sunday afternoon with friends and drinks over a pizza or two or four!

Taupo Wake Park

New Zealands first wakeboard cable, well it was 7 years ago when the park was built, a first of its kind and right on our door step. When I was 19 I spent a summer driving boats and coaching wake boarding in London. The park had 2 big cable lakes. I was only there for one summer but it was 6 months of wake boarding and fun on a lake on the other side of the world. I always thought i’d go back the following summer but life got in the way and it never happened.

The water here is crystal clear! it was not so clear in London. This place is a piece of paradise, the kids loved the paddle boards and the water slide that goes down into the side of the man made lake. Coby had a go on the wakeboard and after a few attempts got up and going which will be amazing for his confidence behind the boat this summer. This is a great way to get the kids use to getting up on a wakeboard with out the intimidation of being behind a boat. The perfect place to host a birthday party! Might have to do that next November for cobys birthday!

In the mean time this lake brings back lots of summer time wake boarding memories for me. And if you are looking for some thing for the kids to do this summer then give this a go, its a great place for them to burn some energy.

Ernest Kemp Taupo

Ernest Kemp, cruises to the unique Maori Carvings every day on Great Lake Taupo! We went on the 10.30am cruise, which included a peaceful ride out and around acacia bay, then out to the Maori Carvings which is spectacular to see up close with the crystal blue waters underneath, we were treated to paradise and a hot summers day! You could see all the way to the bottom! The kids were on trout spotting patrol, they spotted a couple around the rocks as we came in to the carvings. Tea and coffee was available, there was also wine and beer, but we were well behaved as it was only 10.30am! Although i’ll pretty sure that doesn’t actually matter in December?

The kids drew and coloured in and enjoyed getting out the front for photos! You need to take a camera on this trip as there are so many amazing photo opportunities. Its a photographers dream really.

Big sky Parasail Taupo

Looking at Taupo via Parasail is a pretty epic! Yesterday we joined Big Sky Parasail and they took us up, the views from the air are exceptional. My son Coby was a bit hesitant to start with but the team at big sky were amazing and quickly got him over any fears he had and he had the most amazing experience! Cobys 10, but apparently they can cater for kids as young as 5! Kids are super brave these days haha.

He was more worried about me being scared once we were in the air and was calling me a wimp. If you are coming to Taupo over the summer then this is definitely some thing to put on the bucket list!

2 weeks out from Christmas

Only a few weeks out from Christmas and the summer festive season has been in full swing. Tuesday saw two comedians live on the lake front at 2 mile bay sailing club. A night of many laughs! If you enjoy comedy then it was definitely the place to be. Lots of laughs and drinks flowed into the evening. Jarred fell started off the evening followed by Oo Gish. Torban and the team at 2 mile put on the night as a free gig to say thanks for everyones support through the year that was 2020.

Theres so many Christmas parties happening at the moment. Im pretty sure this is the coolest way to pick up pizza in Taupo though!
